Shelfari and the 50 Book Challenge

I've been trying out the various social networks for bibliophiles, the latest being Shelfari. At first glance, it appears to be more intuitively designed than LibraryThing - although it's a bit clunky when you want to add books, never mind if you have a list of books you'd like to upload.  Never-the-less I'm giving it a try, slowly adding books (one at a time) to my virtual shelf. I've even joined a group called "The 50 Book Challenge."  The challenge is (wait for it) to read 50 books in one year, certainly a doable task (given there are no small children to mind as a part of my daily tasks).

So, in an effort to keep track, I'm going to indulge myself here and start a list of the books I've read thus far this year (the ones in bold are good first edition collectibles):
  1. Labyrinth, Kate Mosse
  2. Closer (Tunnels book 4), Roderick Gordon
  3. Death at La Fenice, Donna Leon
  4. The Fire, Katherine Neville
  5. Dooms Day Book, Connie Willis
  6. The Man From Beijing, Henning Mankel
  7. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest, Stieg Larsson
  8. The Calling, Inger Ash Wolfe
  9. To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
  10. The Necromancer (Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel), Michael Scott
  11. Bone by Bone, Carol O'Connell
  12. The Lost Symbol, Dan Brown
  13. The Book of Unholy Mischief, Elle Newmark
  14. Freefall (Tunnels book 3), Roderick Gordon
  15. Break No Bones, Kathy Reichs
  16. The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ, Philip Pullman
  17. Deja Dead, Kathy Reichs
  18. When You Reach Me, Rebecca Stead
  19. The Girl Who Played With Fire, Stieg Larsson
  20. Shades of Grey, Jasper Fforde
  21. The Magician's Elephant, Kate DiCamillo
  22. Ship Breaker, Paolo Bacigalupi
  23. Her Fearful Symmetry, Audrey Niffenegger
  24. Bite Me, a Love Story, Christopher Moore
Books I'm in the middle of reading:
  1. The Man Who Loved Books Too Much, Allison Hoover Bartlett
  2. The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet, David Mitchell
  3. The Windup Girl, Paolo Bacigalupi
  4. The Victoria Vanishes, Christopher Fowler
  5. The Taken, Inger Ash Wolfe
Books in the queue:
  1. Mathilda Savitch, Victor Lodato
  2. Johannes Cabal the Detective, Jonathan L. Howard
  3. Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, Alan Bradley
  4. 206 Bones, Kathy Reichs
  5. The Little Book, Selden Edwards
  6. The Brutal Telling, Louise Penny
  7. The Man Who Smiled, Henning Mankel
  8. Death and Judgment, Donna Leon
  9. The Crystal Skull, Manda Scott
  10. Winter's Bone, Daniel Woodrell
Of course there are many more books stacked next to the bed that will go unlisted for fear of overwhelming myself with lists.

If you'd like to take the 50 book (or 40 book, or 10 book) challenge, set yourself up on Shelfari or post your own list. I'm always eager to see what everyone else is reading.
