Cloud Atlas to Become Movie

David Mitchell's third novel, Cloud Atlas, which was short listed for the Man Booker Prize in 2004, is to begin filming this September.  The screenplay has been co-written and the movie will be co-directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix Trilogy) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run). The cast will include Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Ben Whishaw, Susan Sarandon, and Jim Broadbent.


According to the Hollywood Reporter, "The film, is an adaptation of the epic novel by David Mitchell which follows six storylines, each set in a different place and era, stretching from the 19th century to a post-apocalyptic future. Each actor in the film will be playing multiple roles."

Signed first editions of the book (publsihed by Sceptre, U.K. 2004) are currently listing for up to $925. Unsigned, first printings of the first edition are listing for up to $400+. (later printings of the first edition are also maintaining their value and are being sold in the same price range as first printings, so pay attention when purchasing). 

Signed U.S. first editions, which were published as paperbacks (by Random House Inc, 2004), are listing for up to $400 on ABEbooks.com. Unsigned U.S. firsts/firsts are hard to come by. Many resellers are listing later printings for up to $100 (unsigned).
