Hunting Goodwill...

We just had a new Goodwill store open up down the road from our house, and honestly, I hate it. They price the furniture as if it was all antiques (not laminated chip board - seriously, who is going to pay $60 for the exact same footlocker you can buy at Wal-Mart for $15?).  And if that's not enough of an annoyance, they throw their books, all higglety pigglety, into wire bins.

At any rate, when we feel the need to do some thrift store shopping, we head over to the other Goodwill, where at least they put their books on shelves.  Today, the racks were full - plenty of book club editions, readers digest condensed sets, and interspersed among them - a few books worth taking a look at.

I was able to find first/firsts (in Very Good to Fine condition) of Esau by Philip Kerr, Timothy's Game by Lawrence Sanders, Krysalis by John Trenhaile, and The Keep by Jennifer Egan.

Esau, Philip Kerr
Bought for $2. In Fine/Fine condition it lists for $50 (unsigned). True first was published 1996 by Chatto & Windus (London) - those list from $50-$100+ (signed). Kerr has written 17 novels and eight children's books. Esau is his seventh novel. His first, March Violets (London, Viking, 1989) is worth up to $600 (signed) and $250 (unsigned).

Timothy's Game, Lawrence Sanders
Bought for $2. In Fine/Fine condition it lists from $25 (unsigned) $170 (signed). Sanders wrote 37 novels between 1969 and his death in 1998. Timothy's Game was the second (and last) in the Timothy Cone series.
