Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction Shortlist Posted

Established in 2012, the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction recognizes the best in fiction and nonfiction for adult readers (of books published in the U.S. from the previous year). The winning authors in each category receives $5,000 with the remaining short-list authors receiving $1,500. The Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction is given by the American Library Association with a grant from the Carnegie Corporation.

Previous winners include All the Light We Cannot See (2015), Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption (2015); The Goldfinch (2014), The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the golden Age of Journalism (2014); Canada (2013), Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis (2013); The Forgotten Waltz (2012), Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman (2012).
